The short answer: the site is not being found, or it is being found and does not ask for the call. One of those two is true for nearly every site I audit. The design is rarely the problem.
1. Nobody can find it
Search your trade plus your town in a private browser window. If you are not in the map results or the first page, the site can be perfect and it will not ring. The fix is usually the Google Business Profile: claimed, complete, every service listed, matched to a page on the site. Then a page for each service you want to be found for.
2. It does not say what you do and where
Open the site on a phone. If the first screen does not say the trade and the town, a visitor who came from Google leaves within seconds. Rewrite the first line: what you do, where you do it, and one reason to trust you.
3. There is no obvious next step
A tap-to-call button at the top of every page and a short form. Not a menu of ten options. If a visitor has to hunt for the phone number, half of them do not.
4. There is no proof
Stock photos of strangers and no reviews tell a visitor nothing. Two or three real Google reviews quoted on the page, with names, and photos of your actual work change minds. If you have reviews on Google and none on the site, that is an afternoon of work with a big return.
5. It is slow on a phone
Most local visitors are on cellular. A page that takes five seconds to load loses people before it says anything. Compressed photos and no page-builder bloat usually get a site under two seconds.
